Philleigh Folk

Philleigh Folk is a club run in a traditional style, featuring a guest artist or artists, usually on the second Wednesday of each month at our atmospheric and ‘cosy’ venue, The Roseland Inn, Philleigh from October to May. We move to the larger Bohella Bar at the Social Club, St Mawes for the Sumnmer season. Folk evenings kick off with a handful of numbers from our ‘house band’ Mawbus followed by a few songs from our (usually) local ‘floor singers’ before two feature sets from our ‘guest artists’

Harbottle & Jonas

David Harbottle and Freya Jonas have busked around the world and since returning to these shores have built an impressive gig list covering the whole country playing at festivals, folk clubs and pizza parlours (!!) Multi-instrumentalists, (it would be easiest to list what instruments they don’t play) their sets are a mixture of traditional and contemporary with a touch of Buddy Holly and Mumford & Son thrown in for good measure. In short, something for all tastes.

‘Singer’s Charity Night’

Our ‘singers’ charity nights’ have been so successful they are now an annual event, giving local performers a chance to ‘strut their stuff’. In the past our singers’ sessions have produced some amazing performances from young ‘rising stars’ and are always great entertainment, and all for a great cause as all proceeds go to ‘Children in Need’

MARTIN BABB

For our last offering before a Christmas break, we present Martyn Babb. Roger Bryant told us at Bude Festival to “listen to this man, he’s a great entertainer” and boy, was he right!! Martin is difficult to categorise, a folk singer and musician, certainly, but he is much more than that. He is an MC, a comic, a teller of tales….. - the term entertainer probably best sums him up. We can promise a great start to the festive season……
