Philleigh Folk, a “not-for-profit” organisation, meets usually (but not exclusively) on the first Wednesday or Thursday of the month from October to June inclusive. Our aim is to bring the finest local and national folk musicians to this remote part of Cornwall as well as to provide a platform for enthusiastic amateurs to perform in public before a sympathetic audience. If you would like a spot, contact Greg (address above ) or see me at the start of the evening.
The Roseland Inn provides "meal deals" on folk nights, currently 2 meals for £12 from 6 o'clock. It is advisable to book, direct with the pub on 01872 580 254
How to get tickets:-
Because our room is small (capacity 40), we strongly advise you to reserve tickets to avoid a fruitless journey and ultimate disappointment. This may be done by ringing or e-mailing the organiser (details above). Reserved tickets, plus any left unreserved, will be available from 6.15 on the door. With your name on the ticket you can then put it on your seat to book your place. We have found that this system works.
How to get there :-
We meet at the Roseland Inn, Philleigh which is situated about 1 1/2 miles west of Ruanhighlanes (signposted in the village ) and about 1 mile east of the King Harry Ferry. Please refer to separate page for more detailed directions.
Your route to Philleigh, the first thing to emphasise is, DON'T USE YOUR SAT NAV as we've had problems with people ending up on the wrong side of the River Fal without a ferry!!
From the A30 This is the way I would come:-
M5/A30 to Fraddon. Take the slip road (half way down the hill). At the end of the slip road turn right for Grampound Road.
Go across A3058, through Grampound Road until you reach the A390. Go straight across (actually it's a right and immediately left.)
After about a mile turn left for Tregony at the cross roads on top of the hill. In half a mile you will turn left on to the A3078 for St. Mawes.
Leaving Tregony on your left, keep on this road, past the garage until you come to Ruanhighlanes (about 3 miles). The Roseland Inn is signposted to the right at the junction in the middle of the village.
Philleigh is a mile and a half along this road. The pub is at the road side at the far end of the "village".
From Truro
Go to Tregony and follow the route above.
From the west
The easiest way is to go across the King Harry Ferry and Philleigh is a couple of miles east of the river.
Be warned - check ferry times. You may well be able to get to Philleigh by ferry but you will have to drive round by Truro at the end of the evening.
N.B. Public transport is a no-no!!!
